It’s just over 3 weeks ago since our 2020 spawning programme got underway.
The first spawning took place in the early hours of Saturday 9th May and can be seen in the video below.
Unfortunately things didn’t turn out quite as hoped for the Kujaku, the spawning of which was hoped to be a particular highlight of the year.

With extremely favourable weather in the UK at present I was keen to push on with the 2nd spawning of the year, a female Kawakami Goshiki with 2 males from Kanno.
These parents were put together early on Friday morning, and by 3am Saturday spawning had taken place. Everything went like clockwork, although one of the males seemingly did more than his fair share of the work.

As I type this the fry from the second spawning are beginning to hatch.
