Back in September Koi Water Barn announced that they were moving from the long time home of Lily’s Farm in Chelsfield Village, to new premises located a few miles away within Coolings Garden Centre – Koi Water Barn moving to new premises.

On the 1st December access was gained to the building in which the Koi Water Barn will be constructed at Coolings Garden Centre, with little over 1 month until the opening date of 2nd January 2019.

In the posts and pictures below Keith Holmes takes us through the first 7 days of progress with the build.

Day 1

Today Saturday 1st December 2018 is the start of the future of Koi Water Barn at our new site at Coolings Garden Centre

Access gained today to our new home and work will be starting today on the main display room which we aim to have up and running before Christmas. Before work moves onto the small Koi room, main shop, and of course the outside area which will also feature a very large and impressive display pond.

So the picture below will soon become a distant one as this room takes shape as one of the best Koi showrooms in the Koi Industry…. showcasing not just the best Koi but also the most advance filtration equipment on the market all in a very modern and stylish environment.

Please feel to ask any questions and enjoy the journey, we all are at the Barn!!!

Then finishing off drilling the floor for rebar, which was then fitted and bonded to floor.

While all this was happening I was busy ordering all materials including two very large panels of glass for the viewing windows… watch this space..

Tomorrow should see very good progress made with pipework arriving, and the water supply being installed for the top up system by Andrew Logan for all of the ponds in the main display room!

Mains water supply connected up and run around building to location for ponds for auto top up systems.

The next few days are critical with deliveries turning up on time, to allow the blocks to start being laid on Friday after the pour of the base on Thursday!!

Then things should really go into overdrive to get the ponds built before the glass arrives next week

Temp sign added as well today to let people know where we will be located.

The weather was horrible all day but was this a problem? No, not for us all inside!!! Just a bit of fun with the three large deliveries that were turning up first thing of blocks, sand, dust, and celotex!! Then more 6mtr lengths of pressure pipe, just needed to get them inside as quickly as possible to keep them dry!!

A real push from everybody today, all pipework laid out at and the first course of hollows laid, ready for the big 9cu mtr pour tomorrow midday.

Also all go at the existing Barn site getting ready for the big move over which starts next week. With the Goldfish ponds taken down and the courtyard area nearly empty now. Skip booked for tomorrow so things should really speed up!

A productive day had by all, and all set for the next few days which will see some ponds taking real shape at the new Barn at Coolings, and quickly thanks to the speed of Darren Metalli, and his team.

Then on the small Koi room, some real progress made with the design of these ponds which once again will be something amazing – so another thing to look forward to !!!

Day 6 tomorrow, how do you think we are doing considering we have not even been going a week!!

Day 6

…. and what a day!!

Today, the 6th day of the build, was a big day with the bases being poured for the ponds!!!

Darren Metalli and Bart worked there nuts off to be frank once the concrete turned up to get it all done!!!

Some 10 cubic mtr, all pumped to form the base of all of the ponds and the filter areas, and to fill the hollow blocks on the first row!!

All done in two hours, super job!!

Well done Fleetmix for your fantastic service!

I was on H&S duty in the car park while this was all happening!! And before this in meetings discussing media solutions and telecoms. While Andrew was on site first thing to install another tapped water feed, and then at existing KWB busy sorting for main move next week!

This leaves us ready for tomorrow to lay the rest of the hollow blocks, and rake in the corners were the most strength will be needed!!

Day 7

Not great weather for building ponds if out side, the rain was lashing down!!

Lucky for us all in doors, and the base had gone of a treat over night ready for the start of the walls!

Well what a great day considering the weather, but that is the benefit of being inside.

More hollow blocks laid, and more steel added in the vital points for windows.

Blocks moved ready for the hard push tommorrow to get some walls up and skimmers installed.

Great work from Darren, Bart and Jim as always!
