Sakai Fish Farm will hold an open sale and auction at their Mihara, Hiroshima facility on the 3rd and 4th October. The open sale will start at 1pm on 3rd with the auction starting at 9am on 4th, and it is the auction that promises to grab all of the headlines….
The star lot of the auction is the 2017 All Japan Grand Champion. Following victory at the show in 2017 the Kohaku ‘S Legend’ was bought back by Sakai Fish Farm. Displayed as part of the Yume Ten (Dream Koi) Exhibition at the 2018 All Japan Koi Show she had grown to 99cm and looked more impressive than the year before, arguably she was the most impressive Koi at the show. At the time is was stated she would be auctioned this October, and that time has come. Now 9 years old she has passed the 1m barrier, apparently measuring 101cm.
It’s fair to predict that she will break records when the auction takes place next week. Given the prices we see for 2 and 3 year old Koi at auction events across Japan, what price for a completed article, already holding Grand Champion prizes at the ZNA All Japan and Shinkokai All Japan Shows, and set to regain her crown at none other than the 50th Anniversary All Japan Koi Show in February – http://nishikigoi.life/2018/09/25/50th-anniversary-all-japan-koi-show-2019-nishikigoi-of-the-world/). I guess, as they say, only time will tell…….
Of course there are many other Koi on the ‘undercard’ at the auction, a few of which are presented below.
