On the weekend of 1st-3rd February the 50th Anniversary All Japan Koi Show, 2019 Nishikigoi of the World, will be staged at the Tokyo Ryutsu Centre.
At this past weekend’s All England Koi Show I was able to speak to Shunichi Yoshida, Vice Chairman of the All Japan Nishikigoi Promotion Association, about some of the plans that are in place to celebrate this landmark anniversary.
This year the event will be more than just a Koi show; in addition there will be displays of other Japanese cultural things including, bonsai, goldfish, kimono and sake (with over 200 sake available for visitors to sample and taste).
The show will be spread across 2 exhibition halls. The 1st Exhibition Hall (the one which has historically been used for the show) will continue to be used for the exhibition Koi.
This year the Yume Ten (Dream Koi) display will double in size from approximately 50 to 100 show pools. The Yume Ten will now be moved into first floor of the 2nd Exhibition Hall, along with the vendor booths which have traditionally been housed at the left hand end of the 1st Exhibition Hall. The vendor booths will be on the 2nd floor along with a display celebrating the history of Nishikigoi.
The 2nd Exhibition Hall will be open from 9am-5pm on Friday 1st February whilst judging is taking place in the 1st Exhibition Hall which is closed to the public. On Saturday both will be open from 9am-5pm and on Sunday from 9am-2pm.

Visitors are asked to enter through the 2nd Exhibition Hall (you can then cross through the centre building into the 1st Exhibition Hall).
The 50th Anniversary celebration party will be held at the Tokyo Prince Hotel on Saturday 2nd February.
