Yagenji Koi Farm has become pretty much my first stop every harvest season for the best part of 10 years now.
Yagenji are always hot off the mark with harvesting, and this year is no exception, plenty of Koi already in the Koi houses, and a wide wide range of varieties.
It was a pretty grey miserable afternoon in Mushigame, but pulling up a few newly harvested sansai brightened the day!
First up, Ginrin Kohaku. One of a couple in the main show pond, both extremely nice, the interesting and quirky pattern on this one really appealed. Bright and even Ginrin scalation.
Last autumn I was at a Yagenji nisai harvest during which a number of Doitsu Sanke were harvested, some of which were immediately kept as tategoi. I grabbed a few secret pictures back then that I have somewhere here when I can find them. This was one I recall from then, and one of several swimming in the main display pond.

I often hear people saying how hard it is to find good Koromo. Well here you are, a lovely example and one of 2 that are in the main display pond.
Been a real fan of Yagenji Showa for a few years now and this sansai is among the early harvested Koi.
Perhaps my favourite of the Koi photographed today. Great quality, great pattern, great body and a male to boot…..
