A couple of weeks ago we reported that Koi Wholesale, exclusive UK distributors for Niigata, Japan based Mr Nishikigoi, were planning the trial of a mid summer shipment utilising expanded polystyrene boxes developed by Nishikigoi Niigata Direct – http://nishikigoi.life/2017/07/27/mr-nishikigoi-koi-wholesale-nishikigoi-niigata-direct-collaborate-first-mid-summer-uk-shipment/
On 8th August the Koi left Japan on what was, according to Nishikigoi Niigata Direct, the hottest day of the year at 37oC.
Many hours later the Koi arrived at London Heathrow Airport.
Anyone who has imported Koi to the UK will be familiar with the Animal Reception Centre at Heathrow Airport, a frustrating place to wait for the shipment to clear border inspection before they are released to the importer.
Having been cleared Koi Wholesale were able to complete the final leg of the journey and take the 100+ boxes back to their premises in Nottinghamshire. See more about their premises in this post from my visit in April – http://nishikigoi.life/2017/04/04/visit-koi-wholesale/.
Ryan Stoddart of Koi Wholesale stated, ‘Very impressed, water temp was 24 on average some less. Water quality was good, what I would class as normal for anytime of year really.’

Nishikigoi Niigata Direct said, ‘The whole export arrived in London in perfect condition. This success opens up a new era for Nishikigoi world.’
