I posted details of the 20th Niigata Breeders’ Auction yesterday – 20th Niigata Breeders’ Auction – 1st March 2017 – and some of my picks of the auction.
Overnight there were more Koi added to the auction site, and below are a few more of the Koi that have caught my eye so far….
Following the victory of the AO Aokiya Beni Kikokuryu at the 2016 International Junior Koi Show there seemed to be a real wave of Beni Kikokuryu appearing. I anticipated seeing many among the winners of Sakura prizes at the All Japan Koi Show earlier this month. There were none! I still expect that we’ll see lots more to come from Beni Kikokuryu over the coming years as breeders work to develop the variety, and AO Aokiya is surely one of the leaders of the pack. Probably no surprise to find 2 examples entered into the auction, each at very different stages of development it seems. Will the one above turn jet black like the one below over time? That I have no idea, but if it does, and leaves the white line around the beni pattern, then it could be extremely striking. The one below is already striking of course, and show ready, it is entered into the forthcoming All Japan Young Koi Show. I expect that it will attract a rather high price at auction.
Koshiji Koi Farm Showa are a recent development on the farm, a cross between Dainichi and Sekiguchi bloodlines. There are 5 nisai in the auction, all female and all around the same size. The example below is my personal favourite of the 5, the one above my second choice. I shared all 5 in a post on Facebook earlier today, be sure to check it out and some of the discussion that followed by click this link to Facebook.
Ozumi Ikarashi is another breeder where I suspect we’ll see ongoing improvement and development of Beni Kikokuryu over coming years, this nisai example is one of 2 that is being offered by them in the auction.
Really nice Doitsu Ochiba seem to be getting harder and harder to find. This set of tosai being entered by Kaneko Koi Farm features 2 very attractively patterned examples, along with a very pretty fully scaled example.

Teradomari Koi Farm is situated a little bit off the regularly beaten track in Niigata, however they produce some excellent Ginrin Kohaku. The small nisai example has a nice pattern, and seemingly bright ginrin scalation.
Two tosai metallics being offered by Satoshi Tanaka.
I’ve been a fan of Kanno Goshiki for a number of years now and these 2 batches are both interesting. I particularly love the one to the far right above, but the one on the right has to be the number 1 of the 6, absolutely gorgeous.
To finish, 2 Kohaku from Murata Nishikigoi. I especially like the look of the one on the left.
Be sure to check out all of the Koi in the auction on the Niigata Shinkokai website here – http://jnpa-niigata.com/event/the20th_niigata_auction_2017.html
