As we’ve reported, there were 24 female Gosanke entered into the 90bu size class at the 2017 All Japan Koi Show – http://nishikigoi.life/2017/02/02/2017-japan-koi-show-90bu-female-gosanke-entries/. Prior to judging these are my personal favourites among them.
This Kohaku, the 2016 Jumbo Champion (Runner up), was without doubt the most beautiful of the 90bu Koi to arrive at the All Japan Koi Show. Great skin, great body, superb.
Sadly she will not get chance to compete for Grand Champion it seems. Shortly after being released to the show pool in which she looked amazing – the picture below taken minutes after release – she became unwell. At the time of posting I do not know her state, however enormous efforts were ongoing to support her throughout the afternoon.
The reigning Rinyukai All Japan Champion is also looking great. Perhaps a little small to challenge for GC, quite possible she will take a Kokugyo or Miyabi prize in tomorrow’s judging.
The Dainichi Kohaku looks mighty imposing and impressive. Quality is excellent, size around 95cm, for sure will be in the top 3 for the GC ballot I think.
I have mixed feelings on this Showa still, as I did last year. She has grown 2cm, although the body doesn’t seem as full as last year. Perhaps most significantly the sumi has intensified, although still a little patchy. Winner of the 90bu Miyabi prize last year, expect her to be in the GC ballot to a point, and take Kokugyo or Miyabi at the end of the day.

I think the best Sanke in 90bu goes to this Sakai fish. Not strong enough to feature in the GC ballot to any degree I don’t think, however expect it to take the Best in Variety Sanke prize.
The reigning ZNA Grand Champion looked very nice. I felt the body shape was a little bit weaker than last year, it seemed to need a little more strength around the ‘shoulders’. Skin very nice, although, just as last year, not quite as nice as the Kohaku at the top of the page. Unfortunately the Koi scratched itself prior to coming to the show, slight but visible. Will feature strongly in the GC challenge.
A monster of a Sanke, probably unlikely to challenge in the GC battle, however could push the Sanke above for Best in Variety.
