The listing for the 19th Niigata Breeders Auction which takes place on 1st November at Yamakoshi Branch Office is unsurprisingly dominated by female Koi – http://jnpa-niigata.com/event/the19th-niigata-auction%e2%80%8e.html.

For those who are not concerned about purchasing male Koi, or indeed even seek them out specifically, there are some very nice male Koi available in the list.  I Have to say though some of the pictures leave a little to be desired, but I’ll talk around that….

Anyway, here are some of them below:

Hosokai Koi Farm, Kage Shiro Utsuri, 52cm, Nisai, Male

Hosokai Koi Farm, Kage Shiro Utsuri, 52cm, Nisai, Male

First off, the pool that this has been photographed in at Hosokai is awful, colour is wrong, horrible texture, no idea why it wasn’t just photographed in a bowl.  I say all that because it surely detracts from the Koi.  I’m sure the head won’t be that yellow in real life.  The background kage is nice and even, the sumi pattern on top of it deep black and nicely placed.  At 52cm good for 53bu at the All Japan Wakagoi Show in Kawarimono class.

Ooya Koi Farm, Sanke, Nisai, 52cm, Male

Ooya Koi Farm, Sanke, Nisai, 52cm, Male

The quality of this Ooya Sanke looks really nice.  I included a female Ooya Sanke in my ‘picks’ here – http://nishikigoi.life/2016/10/26/entries-19th-niigata-breeders-auction/.  Sumi quality looks superb, unfortunately it almost all falls on the left side as we look, although it has a certain uniqueness.

Torazo, Kohaku, Nisai, 54cm, Male

Torazo, Kohaku, Nisai, 54cm, Male

The colours are all a little blown out on this Sanke, resulting in the ‘glowy’ scales on the red area between the pecs and the yellowish head colour.  I must try and see this Kohaku before the auction, great pattern.  This could be a steal at the auction.

Hosokai Koi Farm, Ki Kikokuryu, Yonsai, 58cm, Male

Hosokai Koi Farm, Ki Kikokuryu, Yonsai, 58cm, Male

Another Hosokai fish, note the above comments re the background etc.  Nice pattern, neat scales on dorsal ridge, one to see in real life i think.

Izumiya, Sanke, Sansai, 58cm, Male

Izumiya, Sanke, Sansai, 58cm, Male

I love heavy thick sumi on Sanke, and Izumiya Sanke have it a plenty, as with this example above.  I suspect another steal to be had at the auction.

NND, Sanke, Nisai, 55cm, Male

NND, Sanke, Nisai, 55cm, Male

A serious male Sanke, I have to say.  Picture taken quite low down head on I think making the head look overly big.

Aoki Koi Farm, Tancho Goshiki, Nisai, 41cm, Male

Aoki Koi Farm, Tancho Goshiki, Nisai, 41cm, Male

Not AO Aokiya, the more familiar ‘Aoki’, but Aoki Koi Farm in Takezawa Village.  We all know Tancho ‘whatevers’ in big demand.

Kaneko Koi Farm, Tancho Kujaku, Sansai, 51cm, Male

Kaneko Koi Farm, Tancho Kujaku, Sansai, 51cm, Male

As I stated above, Tancho everything in demand, and recent auctions have seen Tancho Kujaku go for serious money.  I don’t think the fact this is a male is going to make it cheap, good for 53bu Tancho class at AJYKS.

NND, Showa, Gosai, 67cm, Male

NND, Showa, Gosai, 67cm, Male

Look forward to seeing this Koi in the flesh before the auction.  At 5 years old and only 67cm it is never going to be the biggest Showa in the world, however, on the face of it, it ticks so many boxes on my Showa check list.  Point number 1, sumi on the white ground……

Tanaka Koi Farm, Kujaku, 40cm, Nisai, Male

Tanaka Koi Farm, Kujaku, 40cm, Nisai, Male

This little Kujaku from Satoshi Tanaka has a great pattern, clear head, and neat matsuba mon scalation forming.

Teradomari Koi Farm, Kohaku, Nisai, 41cm, Male

Teradomari Koi Farm, Kohaku, Nisai, 41cm, Male

Last but by no means least, this Kohaku from Teradomari Koi Farm.  There is something wrong with the picture but I can’t work out what.  The eyes and pec fins are super sharp but there seems a strange blur to the patterns which I suspect do it no favours with the people looking at the pictures.  Koi has a strong male body, great little pattern, and I reckon will be a bargain buy.

Remember, invited Shinkokai members can bid at the auction.  If you are a hobbyist and interested in any of the Koi available contact your dealer, or any of the dealers who advertise on this site.  We have advertisers from around the globe who can help you.
