A few days ago I wrote about Koda Koi Farm nisai – http://nishikigoi.life/2015/10/14/koda-koi-farm-nisai/

There is a lot more to Koi Koi Farm than the nisai that were presented then.  Those Koi may be small, Koda however has plenty of larger Koi, and today was their number 1 harvest.

The pond below is their number 1 pond, situated on the outskirts of Kawaguchi, around 10 minutes drive from the farm premises.

As me rendezvoused just after 8am the area was still shrouded in mist from the Shinano River, the sun trying to burn through.  A beautiful morning.

The Koi clearly visible in the shallow muddy water.  As I’ve written many times this harvest season, the sight gets the heart racing, the anticipation of what is about to be harvested.

As Masato san dragged the net into the water the Koi continued to cruise around unconcerned.

As the net closes around the Koi they show ever more, backs breaking the surface of the water.  Still the breeder cannot be 100% sure of the condition of the Koi.

From my viewpoint in the mud pond the light as the Koi were picked up into transportation tank was particularly beautiful, sadly impossible to be in 2 places at once.

The pictures in the pond didn’t seem to be working today so I went up the bank to the truck where the Koi were being carried.

With 2 tanks full of half of the Koi from the pond we headed back to the premises for them to be unloaded.

Some of the Koi being unloaded are the farms parent Koi, something Masato was keen to show and point out  The nisai shown previously may be small in size however genetically they come from jumbo Koi.

With one of the 2 trucks unloaded, that with the largest Koi, I headed back to the mud pond, stopping briefly at Lawson convenience store in Kawaguchi to take advantage ot the free wi-fi service – http://nishikigoi.life/2015/09/09/new-yamakoshi-wi-fi-hotpsots/

A group of American hobbyists were in attendance at the harvest, their first morning in Japan, a beautiful one it was to.

When I returned to the pond Masato’s grandfather, founder of the farm, was sat next to the netted Koi.  On the bank above the American party were stood with a crew from local TV channel NCT who were filming the harvest.

As the harvest drew to a close Masato’s grandfather could be found peering under the cover on the transportation tank.

I wonder not only what he thought of the harvest, but more so the whole situation? When he started breeding Koi could he ever have imagined people from across the world would visit the farm he founded to purchase the Koi?

More Koi were returned to the Koi house.  Below a few individual examples and some views of the now stocked pond.  Some Koi belonging to Koda and for sale, others parents and some Koi left by hobbyists as azukari.
