I mentioned Izumiya in my post last week about Choguro Koi Farm – http://nishikigoi.life/2015/10/09/chogoro-solid-platinum/

As Choguro is to Purachina, and Omosako is to Shiro Utsuri, without question Izumiya is to Yamabuki, 100% the master of the variety.

Last year I spent a wonderful day with Izumiya as they harvested their jumbo Koi, it features on Niigata Seasons Autumn – http://store.nishikigoi.tv/product/niigata-seasons-autumn/

You can buy Yamabuki from many breeders, jumbo Yamabuki are a rarer commodity.  I jokingly led people astray when I posted on Facebook resulting in numerous inquiries where I’d photographed the Yamabuki below.  Izumiya is the answer.

The images below belie the size of the Koi, all 5 years old and between 75 and 80cm in size.

An adjacent pond contained some Gosanke of super quality, in the midst of which swam a super looking Kin Ki Utsuri.  This year I’m seeing so many really nice big Koi.

Last month the All England Koi Show staged by the South East Koi Club had Shiro Bekko as their special variety.  In 2014 no Shiro Bekko were entered in the show.  The 2015 show attracted 11 entries across the 7 sizes.

Shiro Bekko are a rare variety these days, invariably a byproduct of Sanke spawning that are kept for particular traits, be it skin, shiroji, sumi or body.

Today at Izumiya there were a number of Bekko swimming, I guess nisai, of excellent quality.

Senichi Mano bowled this example below.

So often I write about the importance of sumi falling on the white ground.  If it falls on white and is jet black then it’s high quality.  On that basis the sumi below speaks for itself.

Izumiya is so much more than Yamabuki, they have wonderful examples of many varieties.
