As you may have seen the Koi for the 10th Dainichi Auction which takes place on 2nd and 3rd October have been posted today – http://ocs.sub.jp/na/list.php?AuctionNo=10

Both of the days have a ‘5 star’ rated Koi.

It will be interesting to see these 2 Koi in the flesh, and certainly also to see have the bidders present view them, and bid of course.  They are 2 very different Koi, not least in size, one being 42cm, the other 62cm.

Kohaku – 10th Dainichi Auction

The Kohaku above caught my eye for, I guess obvious reasons.  Throughout the day it has attracted plenty of attention on social media.

There are plenty of other 4 star and 3 star rated Koi, chances are they will all attract significant bids.

I decided to look beyond the ‘stars’ and see what else caught my attention.  Everything that caught my eye had one thing in common, they were all males! None of the males on offer have a star rating, whether that is simply by virtue of being male I am not sure.

Below my pick of the unstarred/male Koi.

Male Showa – 10th Dainichi Auction

Think this has nice quality, red pattern a little heavy for my personal preferences.  The sumi wrapping up on the right hand side as we look seems it might work really nice with the beni pattern.  Perhaps will look nicer in real life.

At 41cm the smallest of the group, but I think it has nice qualities.  There is an overall yellow shade to the picture when compared to the others, suggesting the skin looks excessively yellow/creamy.

Nice ‘finished’ package. Maybe a little unbalanced pattern, but looks great sumi quality, that whole dorsal area falling on the white.

Big frame, big length, sumi a gamble?

Really like the one above, probably my favourite of the bunch. Nice sumi placement on the white.  The makings of menware through the face around the small maruten marking.  Neat motoguro.

2nd or 3rd choice for me, wonder whether the paler area of beni on the shoulder is the picture of it is weaker. Nice sumi placement.  Nice neat motoguro.
