Visitors to Japan now have access to a huge number of Wi-Fi hotspots, and what is especially great is that 19 of them are in Yamakoshi!
Most of the reasonably priced mobile Wi-Fi options have had rather flaky service reliability in Yamakoshi, only NTT Docomo it seemed had a reliable service in the mountains. Land based lines available to properties were also slow.
Late last year a whole new Internet line was placed to Yamakoshi. Now, as a result, there are now 19 free Wi-Fi hotspots available in Yamakoshi, and by signing up to use those you have access to thousands (130,000) others elsewhere, including both Ojiya and Nagaoka.

Other hotspots include YamanakaOhya Koi Farm, Tanaka Koi Farm (Takezawa) and The Farmers Rest House (Mushigame, adjacent to the village store).
The service is available to tourists only, and requires pre-registration.
